The weather in southern California, near Cape Town time. Both have what is a Mediterranean climate.
I would say that Northern California would be closer to Cape Town climate (north of Los Angeles).
California is the northern hemisphere where the seasons are opposite to SA - at Christmas and in January, cold and hot in June / July.
